A Pantaloon Glovie Error

A young man wished to purchase a birthday present for his sweetheart, and after due consideration he decided on a pair of gloves. Accompanied by his sister, he went to a ready-to-wear shop and bought a pair of gloves while his sister bought a pair of panties. In the delivery, the packages became mixed up and his sister got the gloves while he got the panties. Without examining the contents of the package, he sent it to his sweetheart with the following note:

“This little gift is to show that I haven't forgotten your birthday. I chose these because I noticed that you aren't in the habit of wearing them when you go out in the evenings. If it hadn't been for my sister, I would have gotten long ones with buttons, but she said short ones are in style. These are a very delicate shade but the clerk showed me a pair she had been wearing for three weeks and they were hardly soiled. I had the clerk try them on and she looked very smart. How I wish I could put them on for you for the first time. No doubt many other gentlemen's hands will come in contact with them before I have a chance.

“I didn't know the exact size, yet I should be capable of judging better than anyone else. When you take them off, blow in them for they may be a little damp from wearing. Be sure to keep them on when cleaning them, otherwise they might shrink. I hope you will wear them next Friday night.

“P.S. Just think of the number of times I will kiss the back of them during the coming year. The clerk said the latest style is to wear them unbuttoned and hanging down. “
