The Dingers are descended from a German-speaking clan named Denger from Sissach, Basiland, Switzerland. They lived there in the 1500s. In the 1600s the family emigrated to Hessen, Germany, and in the 1700s they emigrated to Pennsylvania, where they were known as Pennsylvania Dutch. In the 1800s David Denger moved the family to Iowa.
